30 years on trust makes worthy things happen
It is the end of an era for the Otago Community Trust, as grants manager Carol Melville steps down after 30 years with the trust.
According to the most recent Non-profit institutions satellite account: 2013 (StatsNZ) - an estimated 1,229,054 people volunteered for one or more NPIs in 2013. The average volunteer did 3.0 hours a week of formal unpaid work. The total time volunteers spent working for non-profits was estimated to total 157 million hours. Yet similar to global trends, NZ is witnessing reductions in time spent volunteering despite 90 percent of non-profits relying on volunteers. Without volunteers a vast array of wonderful projects and initiatives just wouldn’t happen. If you would like to learn more about volunteering visit the Volunteering New Zealand website here.
